
Hannah Cassar holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Anthropology from the University of Malta, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Humanitarianism, Conflict, and Development at the University of Bath.
She is a Research and Policy Officer with the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority, and also a council member of the Malta Anthropological Society, where she focuses on promoting research and awareness about anthropology, facilitating discussions and events that engage the public in anthropological topics and foster a greater appreciation for the discipline.

For people to have good repute, to have honour and shame, they must be loyal and honest (Pitt-Rivers,1997). That being said, this proposed moral code of behaviour does not apply to all and sundry in the same way, to the point where honour and shame are “no longer synonymous” (Pitt-Rivers, 1997, pp.20).

Tradition and Modernity
The Mediterranean is often characterised by the label ‘traditional’ which is why it is an ideal location from which this concept can be examined.
